Pilgrims and Indians (a Thanksgiving Craft)

I wish I could tell you that this was an easy craft, but it turned out to be a little more time consuming than I thought.  Of course, I probably made it that way by adding embellishments and such.  You could definitely make this a lot easier if you wanted.

We used paper plates, blue, red, black and pink construction paper.  Black, red and blue ribbons.  Wiggly eyes and a black marker.  Black and light brown yarn.  Feathers and glue.  Skin tone and brown paint.

For the pilgrims, Nathan painted two plates with the skin tone paint.  I mixed some brown paint with the skin tone paint for a darker tone for the indians....

We cut out the inner circle of the plate for the faces

I took some black yarn and made some braids with it and tied it with some red ribbons for the indian girl

I made some pony tails with the light brown yarn and tied blue ribbon to the ends for the pilgrim girl

We took one of the faces and glued the pony tails to the sides of it

Nathan glued the wiggle eyes on and drew a nose and mouth and also glued on some pink circles for the cheeks.

Then, we cut the "lip" part of half of a paper plate to make the bonnet and another smaller section to add more "height" to the bonnet.

We also took two smaller sections of the plate to make a collar and cut a triangle using blue construction paper for the "dress/shirt" part of the collar and added a black bow.

For the boy pilgrim, we did the same thing, with the collar.  We also added some shorter light brown yarn for hair and a black pilgrim hat.

For the indian girl, we used one of the darker toned plates -- We glued the black braids to the sides of the plate, drew a face and glued on the wiggle eyes and circles for cheeks too (using a slightly darker shade of pink).

We also used a small rectangle for a headband and glued a feather to it.  We did the same thing for the boy indian, only we left his hair long and unbraided.  We also gave him more feathers and a small little mohawk.

We taped a small black ribbon to the back of each of them so that we could hang them up.

I think they turned out rather nice and look super cute hanging up with all the turkeys and stuff.  Looks like we'll be having a few more "friends" over for dinner on Thanksgiving Day.
