silly fun

Nathan, Sarah and I were just hanging out on the couch (about a month ago), when Sarah picked up the camera and started taking pictures of me and Nathan for fun.

I have no idea where he gets his silliness from.....nope, not a clue

Can't believe my little guy is going to be 7 in 10 days...he is rather excited and counting down the days.  I'm trying not to be too upset that my baby is growing up too darn fast.

eShakti Clothing Review

Like many, I had never heard of eShakti before I was asked to review something from their online clothing boutique.

(lime daisy blouse)

I must admit that I was intriqued when I heard that eShakti offers customization of their clothing,  allowing women to modify original fashions to fit their size, shape and personal style.   Don't like the sleeves on the dress you picked out, just change them to something different.  Want the dress shorter or longer, change it.

Even when it comes to sizing, you can order your pieces to the exact measurements of your body.  It's like an all in one shopping experience (great clothes and tailoring)...how clever is that? They cater to women of all sizes from 0 to 26W.  There are so many dresses, scarves and tops.  Even purses and jewelry, which makes shopping such a fun experience.   eShakti has a quick turnaround time which allows customers to receive their custom-made look within a week of ordering.

I ordered a size large by entering my measurments and I have to say the shirt fits great. I love it.  I was quite impressed by eShakti and I think you might be too.

eShakti is offering my readers a 10% discount when you shop at eShakti - valid til July 31, 2012. This code can be used in addition to the existing 'up to 40% OFF Sale'

The special promo code is  JF26ENE

*Disclosure ~ I received this shirt for review purposes only.   I was not compensated in any way.  The opinions herein are my own and were not influenced by the company.

My 11th Week on Nutrisystem

I just finished up my 11th week on Nutrisystem.

I get asked all the time if Nutrisystem is hard to follow.

And for me the answer is simple...

No.

With each month's order I get a little journal.  A Daily Tracker if you will.

Each day I enter the date and everything I eat.  The great thing about this journal is there are little tabs marked water, daily 3 and vegetables.  Everything is broken down into categories and it's super simple to use.  There is also a handy reminder guide with add in's you can eat, what smart carbs and power fuels are and the correct measurements for each food.

Nutrisytem uses the phrases "power fuels" which are basically proteins (eggs, lean meats, fatty fish, peant butter, etc.) and "smart carbs" which are good carbs like brown rice, whole grains, breads, fruits and starchy vegetables like, beans, peas, corn and potatoes.  In the past I thought vegetables were vegetables and they were all considered good for you (which in moderation they are).  What I didn't know is that some vegetables are starches as well and those should be eaten in moderation.

So for instance on this program, I can eat corn on the cob and I can mark it down as a vegetable in the vegetable tab, but I also need to mark it down as a smart carb and check off a smart carb tab as well.  If you notice you get 2 smart carbs, 2 power fuels, 4 vegetables, along with my nutrisystem entrees and shake. It looks like alot of food (and sometimes it really does feel like alot too).  But when you break it down throughout the day, it keeps you full and keeps you from snacking all day.

The daily 3 is my exercise guide.  Nutrisystem recommends that you do at least 30 minutes of exercise a day, but they give you the option to break it down into ten minute intervals, if you find that you can't work out for 30 whole minutes at a time.

This handy little guide is my go to weight loss tool.  I use it every single day without fail.  In the past when I was on a weight loss program or simply trying to lose weight on my own, I would write down what I ate, but I would always give it up eventually and then when I didn't have anything holding me accountable for my food intake, I would end up giving up on my diet too, which of course led to gaining it all back.

No one is checking my journal....no one is looking at it and correcting my food....no one is making sure that I'm doing my "homework".  But I know.  So I do it.  It keeps me on track and that's a good thing.

So, did I finally get "unstuck" and move away from 166....my nemesis (hahah)?

Oh hell, yeah!

I lost 2 pounds this week....for a total of 16 pounds lost!

Through mixing my lunches and dinners around, upping my water intake and exercising.  I'm still under alot of stress, and realized this morning that most of the summer (while the kids have been home) I have been stuck and having a hard time losing.  Stress isn't good when you are trying to lose weight.  I decided that I can be a little more "selfish" when it comes to needing me time and a break from my kids and it's not only healthy, but extremely necessary for my weight loss to continue.  Luckily, Rich agrees and he said he will try to help out more with the kids and give me more opportunities to get out of the house and relax for my (and probably more so his - lol) sanity.

Meet Jamie of The Happy Hooker

    Introducing....

    Jamie Bower-Yerkes
    of
    The Happy Hooker

Tell us about yourself.......I am 30 years old and married.  I live in Shamokin, Pa and also own a photography studio.  I have been very crafty from ever since I can remember, and enjoy making things for both myself and for gifts.

What do you create........I hand crochet beanies, dresses, photo props, flower, mostly anything you show me I can recreate in crochet.

Why do you create.......I currently am a wholesale supplier to various hippie/smoke shops in the USA. Currently I supply over 50 storefronts. I also sell some ready to ship items online.

What are your favorite materials to work with......I enjoy making personal projects, using anything I can get my hands on. Recently I created a reindeer with antlers and they were made of straws with crochet around them.

When do you find time to create......I dream about crochet and what I want to make next. Usually if I can’t figure out a design I “sleep on it” and the next day I usually have it. I also never used a pattern.

Any advice you would like to share......The best advice I could share with anyone is to do it if you love it... There is nothing better than to crochet or do any craft as long as it is something you want to do. It sure is a labor of love.

    In the Kitchen with Nathan

Nathan has been asking to help me make some goodies lately.

So, we made these Jello Cookies.

Click on the link for the recipe.

We doubled the recipe and they came out so cute and colorful.

The kids kept asking me where the yellow and purple ones were :)

    Hmmmm, there's always next time.

Nathan LOVES helping when it comes to baking.

"Mommy, can I crack the eggs?"
"Hey Mom, can I pour the flour in the bowl?"
Mom, how do you turn on the mixer?"

Each time he helps, he gets a little more involved in the process.

Who knows maybe one day Nathan will be a "cake boss" too.

    My 10th Week on Nutrisystem

Today wraps up my tenth week on Nutrisystem.  I didn't lose anything, again.  I think I'm stuck.

I kind of suspected that after the week I've had and the stress I have been under that I wouldn't lose anything and I was right.  This has been the worst week ever, I swear!

First, my email account was hacked.  Then the hacker opened a credit card on my paypal account and stole my money.  Luckily I caught it before it got too bad and hopefully since we had the person's name and address from paypal, that they will be caught and held accountable.  We are praying that that is the worst of it.

Then, Tuesday night  had to take Zachary to the emergency room for stomach pain...thought it was his appendix (and was right).  He had surgery the next morning..some 4th of July he had.

It all started around 3 p.m. Tuesday.  He was hanging out with a friend and apparently ate a bad apple.  He said he took a bite out of an apple and it was brown and black inside...he immediately spit it out.  Then he said his stomach started to hurt so he thought it was food poisoning.  Even though later he was able to eat a burger with his friend.

He came home around 7 or so and went straight to bed, which I thought was odd behavior for him.  Later, Anthony had some friends over and they were hanging out with Zach too and he barely acknowledged them.  He told them he thought it was food poisoning from the apple.  But the pain was now on his right side too.  I got concerned and asked him some questions.  He also had a slight fever and chills.  He looked awful which isn't like him.  Even when he's sick (which is rare), he is still happy go lucky, well, he wasn't acting like himself, that plus the pain...made me worry about his appendix.

Took him straight to the ER where they ran tests and everything came back normal.  They did a CT scan which showed fluid where his appendix should be.  The ER doctor consulted with a surgeon and they both agreed it could be the appendix.  So at 7 that morning, when the surgeon's shift was actually over, he performed surgery on Zach.  He later told me that it was infected and inflammed and it was a good thing we caught it.

Let that be a lesson to all mothers out there.....

    always, always always

    Trust those instincts!!!

I tried to follow my diet while he was in the hospital.  I drank plenty of water, ate my breakfast bars, even packed  my lunch....but other than walking all over the hospital, I didn't exercise one bit.

Zach is home now recovering and he is doing well...just some pain where his incisions are.  We are so thankful that everything turned out so well.

Last night, Nicholas got the stomach flu...he was afraid it was his appendix too.  Poor kid was scared.  I had to keep explaining to him that his pain was in the middle of his belly and wasn't like Zach's at all (middle and right side constant pain).  Plus, Nicholas had made several trips to the bathroom and threw up about 4 times (Have I ever mentioned how much I hate cleaning up vomit!?!?!).   He woke up this morning like his old, rotten self.

So Needless to say, it has been a stressful week and I'm not the slighest bit surprised that I didn't lose any weight.  I'm glad I didn't gain anything.  It would have been a pleasant surprise to stand on the scale and see something other than 166 which I've been seeing for 3 weeks now (not going to lie), but I'm keeping my spirits high and hoping for a loss next week....and no more stress!
