Moms That Blog (The Interviews)

Introducing.....Marcia - She's a full time working mother of twins, who still takes the time to blog and support other moms that blog....and that's what her a great Mom That Blogs.

Tell us a bit about yourself......I work in financial services full-time and after hours I'm a time management coach and speaker when I'm not being a wife to D and a mother to my babies. I'm very proudly South African and have been married to D for 17 years. After trying to get pregnant for 4 years, we finally hit the jackpot after our second IVF with ICSI attempt with twins. Those boy/ girl twins, Connor and Kendra, were born at 32 weeks and are now 2 years 8 months. Sometimes when I look at them, I still can't believe they're mine and that they're real when they were a dream for so very long. I'm passionate about people living their lives intentionally.

Name 3 fun facts we may be surprised to learn about you.....
I can sing the entire soundtrack of The Commitments. Not well, but I do know the words.

The thing that makes me feel most alive is speaking to large groups of people.

I aim to live a simple life but stationery is my downfall. Show me some pretty notecards or labels and I go weak at the knees.

When did you first start blogging....I first started blogging on The 123 blog in 2006, really as a way to have an anonymous outlet so that I could talk about the infertility. I have another two blogs I also started in 2006 (they're also still active) which were the main two places I blogged at. I started blogging more regularly on The 123 blog when we made the decision to see a fertility specialist and later, to pursue IVF. There was a whole group of women who were all infertile, going through treatment and then pregnant in varying stages, so we could all offer each other support.

What is your blog about.......It's about me navigating this life, trying to make every second count impacting and inspiring as many people as I can, all while staying true to my beliefs and values. My tagline says "parenting twins after IVF and living life large"

Why do you blog......Initially I blogged to connect with other infertile women, and then pregnant women and then new mothers. These days I blog for therapy, connection and to clear my mind before bed every day :)  I love having a record of my kids' milestones, the things they say, all my little projects but also how I'm feeling at a particular point in time.

Must read blogs that you visit daily.....It's difficult to answer this because there are blogs I read first in my reader but they don't post daily, and then there are some that post too much and half the stuff I skip over because I know I SOOOO enjoy the 3 posts per week :)

However, let me share a couple of my favourites. When I see these ones pop up in my Google Reader, I go make a cup of tea and settle in to read.
My fascinating life - I so wish Claudia lived near me so we could be real friends. She is also a Christian, is Australian living in the UK and adopted the most gorgeous two babies from Ethiopia. Oh, and she writes beautifully.

MWF Seeking BFF - I'm on a current friendship kick (please see my Friendship Friday posts) totally inspired by this blog and her book. I love this blog because she writes about everything you're thinking but no-one ever talks about. Kind-of like Seinfeld LOL

Jon Acuff's blog http://www.jonacuff.com/blog/ - he's a Christian and he talks about going after your dreams and how to do it responsibly without just giving up your job. He has such a cool way of looking at the world. I'll read a post and keep thinking about it for days afterward.

Katelyn James http://katelynjamesblog.com She is a wedding photographer and I love her work. She's also a Christian and I love reading her stuff when she talks about ministry. So inspiring. Also, go look at her office.
I love it all - http://iloveitallwithmonikawright.blogspot.com- I love Monika's blog. It is creative, inspiring, simple, authentic and just so pretty. I was inspired by her to make mini books and use baker's twine.

What inspires you.....Seeing people going after their dreams. God working in and through people.
Grey skies. Rain.

Do you have a bucket list - name a few things on it.....Of course I do. I am the poster child for goals :) Some of the first things on my list (years ago) were to have children and to write a book. I have the kids and my book is 90% done. I have tons of travel to still do. One of those, to visit New York City, will happen in July this year. Other places I'd love to visit again are Thailand and Singapore.

Do you have any blogging advice that you would like to share..... Write in your own style and be authentic. Don't try to be like other bloggers. The world wants all of YOUR awesomeness :)

Rainbow & Pot O' Gold Mobile

Materials: rainbow colored and black construction paper, yarn, an empty paper towel holder, scissors and glue.

Thread the yarn through the paper towel holder and tie it in a knot (leaving enough of it to hang the mobile from).

Using one sheet of each, cut the rainbow colored paper into strips.

Wrap the strips one at a time, side by side around the paper towel holder and glue it closed.

Continue until the holder is covered.

Next, make paper chains using the remaining paper strips

Cut two pots with the black paper and circles with another sheet of yellow paper.

Thread another piece of yarn through the tube and glue it to the top of one of the pots and six strings to the bottom of the pot.

Make a small hole in the chains and thread the yarn through and knot it (so that the chain can hang from it).

Glue the other pot on top  (so that the yarn is covered and inside the pots).

Glue the yellow circles to the pot on both sides.

All done....

How cute is this???

UPrinting --- Hang Tag Giveaway --- CLOSED!!

Since I started this whole apron selling adventure, I've been thinking of clever ways to not only market them, but packaging them for shipping as well.

Shamrock Suncatchers

We used contact paper and green tissue paper.  We also used a shamrock cutout as a pattern.

This craft is self explanatory...cut a square of contact paper large enough to match the pattern.  Cut some green tissue paper into small squares.  Sprinkle the tissue paper squares to the contact paper.

Next, match up another sheet of contact paper, smooth out the edges as best you can.  Then using the shamrock pattern, cut out the suncatcher....done!

These look so cute hanging on the patio doors....

Take a look at another cute St. Paddy's Day suncatcher craft

(just look at my little babies.....Wah!!)

every afternoon they walk home like this.....

Nicholas is building some serious muscle power!

Moms That Blog (The Interviews)

Introducing......Lorie - She's a former teacher, now a stay at home mom.  She loves doing crafts with her kids and of course, reading lots of books to them and that's what makes her a great Mom That Blogs.

Tell us a bit about yourself......I've been married for 4 years.  I have a 3 year old son, a 2 year old daughter, and a 11 year old stepdaughter.  Until this school year, I was a reading teacher for 10 years, mostly working with middle school students.  Now I'm lucky enough to be staying home for a while to be with my little ones.

Tell us 3 fun facts we may be surprised to learn about you.....
1. My dream jobs (in no particular order) would be: writing novel studies for young adult books, blogging, taste testing at Hershey's. I sort of do all those things already but to do them as a job and get paid for it? Oh my goodness.
2. I like trashy television. If Housewives is in the title, I'll watch it. My favorite is Project Runway and (get ready to cringe) Dance Moms.

3. I'm a naturally messy person and my husband tends to be neat. But not in a way that benefits me. For example, right after our second baby was born and the house was in shambles, he proudly announced that he'd organized the dish towel drawer.

When did you first start blogging......I just started last August.  My sister suggested it and I kept thinking about it.  It seemed good to have something outside of the kids and house to think about.  I like projects and especially planning projects.   I'm a project sort of person.

What is your blog about....... My blog is about the books and matching activities I do with my preschoolers.

Why do you blog....... I just really like it.  I like when somebody tells me that they've read a book I've recommended and their child loved it.  And you "meet" really nice women.  I'm even starting to like the coding/technical part of it which used to scare me.  Although sometimes it still makes me mad when I can't figure it out.

Must read blogs that you visit daily........ Jackie at Ready. Set. Read! always has great book recommendations and activities. Her kids are about the same age as mine so I know if her little ones liked it, mine probably will too. There are so many wonderful children's books out there that it's impossible to know about them all and her blog is a great resource for finding new ones.

I always like to stop by Crayon Freckles to see what Andie and her little Bear are up to. She's really creative and has really cute ideas for activities to do with him. I also link up to her Tip-Toe Thru Tuesday party and find good ideas there too.

Repeat Crafter Me and Come Together Kids, and Inspiration Laboratories always have the cutest projects and I get inspired every time I stop by.

Come Together Kids

There are lots more that I love.  I could spend all day being amazed by the creativity out there.

What inspires you.......My kids. (Does everybody say that?) I spend a lot of time thinking up exciting projects for them and forget that they are thrilled when they see a bird.  Or a dump truck.

Do you have a bucket list - name a few things on it........ I don't have one, but I'd like to see Ireland.  Drink a pint there.

Do you have any blogging advice that you would like to share........I'm a pretty new blogger so I don't have much advice yet, but I'd say be ready to learn new things.  Just the other day, html codes started to make a tiny bit of sense to me and it was like learning to read all over again.  It was actually pretty exciting!
