My Friend Fred

We have a new member of our family....

Little Miss Coco

Nathan isn't really thrilled with Coco, yet.  I think it's because he's the baby and he doesn't like someone else being the "baby", even a dog.  Plus, Nathan is a bit afraid of dogs, not really sure why or where that comes from (because we have Bandit), but since getting Coco, Nathan has spent alot of time on the couch and jumping from high place to high place.

I think the main thing is her teeth.  She doesn't mean to nip at him or anyone, she's just a puppy that's basically teething.

So at any rate, when we opened our shipment of books from Tiger Tales and I saw this book, I knew it would be perfect for Nathan to read.

My Friend Fred is about a little girl Grace and her dog.  Grace and Fred do everything together.  Even though Fred is the "family dog", Grace thinks he's her best friend and no one else is allowed to play with him.  When Grace's sister, Sarah and her friends want to play with Fred, Grace gets mad and shuts him in her room with her.

Fred gets mad and doesn't want to play with Grace, because he wants to play with everyone.  Grace learns that it's better to share with friends and not keep them all to yourself.

My dog Fred is written by Hiawyn Oram and beautifully illustrated by Rosie Reeve.

In an effort to help Nathan get to know Coco better, we have been spending alot of time petting her together and teaching him how to get along with her, as well as teaching him how to play with her without being afraid.

We drew some pictures of Coco after reading the book.

He was spelling his middle name Marcus ---- M-A-R-K-I-S-S.  :)

We also drew some Dr.Seuss pictures (in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday)

Hopefully, with a little bit of love and a whole lot of patience we will be on our way to teaching Nathan that Coco can not only be "the family dog", but also his best friend.
